1. INTRODUCTION

The Midwest Cyber Security Alliance (“MCSA,” or “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy and are committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy.

The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to describe how the MCSA collects, uses, and discloses information about you, including information you submit to us offline and through our online interfaces (e.g., websites and mobile applications) owned and controlled by us. Our online interfaces include our website, midwestcyber.org, and our associated application (collectively referred to herein as the “Site”).

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we will treat it. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, your choice is not to use our Site. Please note that your use of our Site is also subject to our Terms of Use. By accessing or using our Site, you agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use. This Privacy Policy may change from time to time (see Changes to Our Privacy Policy) . Your continued use of our Site after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please check this Privacy Policy periodically for updates. 2.  INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT

Information You Provide to Us

We collect information you provide to us, for example when you create or modify your account, register for an event, register to use our Site, use or products and services, donate or provide payments to MCSA, request information or materials from us, or otherwise communicate with us. This information may include name; address; email address; telephone number; financial and bank account information; and other information you choose to submit to us (collectively, “personal information”).

You also may provide information to be published or displayed (hereinafter, “posted”) on public areas of the Site or transmitted to other users of the Site or third parties (collectively, “User Contributions”), including on third party social media sites maintained by MCSA. Your User Contributions are posted on and transmitted to others at your own risk. Although we limit access to certain pages, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. Additionally, we cannot control the actions of other users of the Site with whom you may choose to share your User Contributions. Therefore, we cannot and do not guarantee that your User Contributions will not be viewed by unauthorized persons.

Information We Collect Automatically Through Your Use of our Site

As you navigate through and interact with our Site, we may use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain information about your interaction with our Site, such as:

  • Details of your visits to our Site. This may include: browsing history, traffic data, location data, logs, referring/exit pages, date and time of your visit to our Site, error information, clickstream data, and other communication data and the resources that you access, use, or otherwise interact with on the Site; and

  • Information about your computer and internet connection (e.g., IP address, operating system, and browser type).

 

The information we collect automatically helps us to improve our Site and to deliver a better and more personalized service by enabling us to: (i) estimate our audience size and usage patterns; (ii) store information about your preferences; (iii) customize our Site according to your individual interests; (iv) speed up your searches; and (v) recognize you when you return to our Site.

The technologies we use for this automatic data collection may include:

  • Cookies (or browser cookies). We and our service providers use cookies to receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with our Site through your computer or mobile device. A cookie is a small file or piece of data sent from a website and stored on the hard drive of your compute or mobile device. On your computer, you may refuse to accept browser cookies by activating the appropriate setting on your browser, and you may have similar capabilities on your mobile device in the preferences for your operating system or browser. However, if you select this setting, some Site features or services may not function properly. Unless you have adjusted your browser or operating system setting so that it will refuse cookies, our system will issue cookies when you direct your browser to our Site.

 

  • Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”) to collect certain information relating to your use of the Site. Google Analytics uses “cookies,” which are text files placed on your computer, to help the Site analyze how users use the site. No Information from Children under 18 Years of Age

Our Site is not directed at nor intended for children under 18 years of age. No one under age 18 may provide any personal information on or through our Site. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you are under the age of 18, please do not attempt to register with us at this Site or otherwise provide any personal information about yourself to us. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under the age of 18 without verification of parental consent, we will promptly delete that information. 3.  HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the information that we collect about you or that you provide to us, including any personal information:

  • to provide and personalize our Site and its contents to you;

  • to register and service your online account;

  • to maintain and manage our subscriber base, including our social media followers;

  • to provide you with information, materials, or services that you request from us;

  • to register you for an event;

  • to process payments and donations made to MCSA;

  • to contact you in response to a request;

  • to send you promotional materials or advertisements in regard to the MCSA, as well as upcoming events;

  • to administer surveys, sweepstakes, promotions, and contests;

  • to help maintain the safety, security, quality, and integrity of our Site, databases and other technology assets, and business;

  • to notify you of changes to our Site or any products or services we offer though it; and

  • to carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us; and

  • for any other purpose with your consent or as otherwise permitted by law.

4.  DISCLOSURE OF YOUR INFORMATION

We may disclose information that we collect or you provide as described in this Privacy Policy to:

  • Third party service providers that help us operate and manage our Site and MCSA services and events, process donations and transactions, and provide advertising for us. These service providers may have access to your personal information in order to provide these services, but when this occurs we implement reasonable contractual and technical protections to limit their use of that information to helping us provide the service. 

  • A potential or actual buyer or successor in the event of a planned or actual merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of MCSA’s assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding, in which personal information held by MCSA about our subscriber base and/or Site’s users is among the assets transferred. In such a case, unless permitted otherwise by applicable law, your information would remain subject to the promises made in this Privacy Policy unless you agree differently.

  • Any other companies, organizations, or individuals outside of MCSA when we have your consent to do so.

 

We may also disclose your information, including any personal information:

  • to comply with our legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations as well as any court order, law, or legal process, including to respond to any government or regulatory request;

  • to enforce our Terms of Use, including to investigate potential violations of it;

  • to detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues;

  • if we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of MCSA, our users, customers, or the public as required or permitted by law; or

  • for any other purpose with your consent or as otherwise permitted by law.

5.  ACCESSING, CORRECTING, AND DELETING YOUR INFORMATION

You may send us an email at info@midwestcyber.org to request access to, correct, or delete any personal information that we have about you. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your request if we believe it would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect.

6.  CHOICES ABOUT HOW WE USE AND DISCLOSURE YOUR INFORMATION

We strive to provide you with choices regarding the personal information you provide to us. We have created mechanisms to provide you with the following control over your information:

  • Promotional Communications (Email). If you do not wish to have your email address used by MCSA to promote our own events, materials, and services, you can opt-out at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email or other marketing communications you receive from us or emailing info@midwestcyber.org. This opt out does not apply to informational emails and communications provided by MCSA regarding our events or services, nor does it apply to information provided to MCSA as a result of your use of our services.

 

  • Cookies (or browser cookies). You can set your browser to refuse all or some cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. However, if you disable or refuse cookies, please note that some parts of our Site may then be inaccessible or not function properly.

We do not control third parties’ collection or use of your information to serve interest-based advertising. However, these third parties may provide you with ways to choose not to have your information collected or used in this way. 7.  SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION

We have implemented measures designed to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. The safety and security of your information also depends on you. Where you have chosen a password an account registered on our Site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the Internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted to our Site. Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Site. Please note that emails and other communications you send to us through our Site are not encrypted, and we advise you not to communicate any personal or sensitive information through these means.

8.  DO NOT TRACK

Some web browsers permit you to broadcast a signal to websites and online services indicating a preference that they “do not track” your online activities. At this time, we do not honor such signals and we do not modify what information we collect or how we use that information based upon whether such a signal is broadcast or received by us.

9.  CONSENT TO PROCESSING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION IN UNITED STATES

This Site and MCSA’s services are intended for users in the United States. They are not intended for or directed to users located in other countries or jurisdictions, including, but not limited to, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. By using and accessing our Site, users who reside or are located in countries or jurisdictions outside of the United States agree and consent to the transfer to and processing of personal information on servers located outside of the country where they reside, and that the protection of such information may be different than required under the laws of their residence or location.

10.  THIRD PARTY SITES

Our Site also contains links to third party sites that are not owned or controlled by MCSA.  Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. The privacy practices of these third parties, including details on the information they may collect about you, are subject to the privacy policies of these parties, which we suggest you review.

11.  CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY POLICY

We may change this Privacy Policy at any time. It is our policy to post any changes we make to our Privacy Policy on this page. If we make material changes to how we treat our users’ personal information, we will notify you by email to the email address that we have on file for you, through a notice on our Site’s home page, or using a similar method. You are responsible for ensuring we have an up-to-date active and deliverable email address for you, and for periodically accessing our Site and reviewing this Privacy Policy to check for any changes.
